— an award-winning 3D digital artist living in Canada, she has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Based in animation, NFTs and print, her work explores issues of mortality, technological evolution and our new way of seeing – mediated almost entirely by electronic screens.
Music – Keil. Culturally, the skull is a universal symbol with a distinct meaning; death, mortality, or perhaps the unachievable nature of immortality. Memento mori, Latin for “remember that you must die” encapsulates the implicit symbolism of the skull. While the phrase memento mori itself has roots in early Stoic philosophy, cross-cultural literature and philosophy on the subject is pervasive. Many of these writings encourage us to meditate on our own mortality, urging us to find presence of mind in the ephemeral nature of our lives or perhaps liberation – personal freedom through understanding the finite nature of our existence.

Models of mental health care are currently undergoing a massive paradigm shift due to the emergence of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. Western medical traditions have, at the eleventh hour, rediscovered ancient human practices that harness the power of ecstatic, non-ordinary states of consciousness, reconnect us to our estranged, essential parts—and each other—and release the trauma that is at the center of most of our modern-day afflictions—from depression and anxiety to addiction and PTSD.
Perhaps above all, psychedelics also promise to transform the way we die. Instead of numbing, disconnecting, and missing out on life’s final gift, substances like psilocybin and 5MeO-DMT offer an opportunity to face the inevitable with total presence, courage, and gratitude, whether it be our own immediate fate, or that of a loved one.
The Nikean Psychedelic Psychotherapy Research Centre is an academic and innovation at the forefront of psychedelic research, with an aim to pioneer training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and provide transformative care to patients.
